Northwest Judo Friends and Family:

I hope this message finds you well this spring.

As we approach the end of the Northwest spring tournament circuit, I wanted
to reach out and say thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make
our tournaments successful thus far in 2019. Obukan led the way in March
with a strong tournament as always. Lakeland Judo and Joseki stepped up and
hosted our State Championships in beautiful Coeur d'Alene, followed shortly
thereafter by the Budokan and Seattle Dojo tournaments, and last weekend we
had the Pacific Northwest High School and Middle School Championships in
Kent. Special congratulations to Kent Meridian High School on their first
state championship!

Although we only have one more major tournament in the area until the fall,
there are many other local clinics as well as national events that will
provide our Northwest judoka with opportunities to grow. Mark your
calendars!

May 17: Newaza Clinic with Taylan Yuasa (Budokan Dojo)

May 18-19: Judo Clinic with Shintaro Nakano (Seattle Dojo)

May 25: Inland Empire Judo Tournament (Spokane, WA)

June 1-2: USA Senior Nationals (Las Vegas, NV)

June 16: Clinic and Camp with Marti Malloy and Haruka Tachimoto (Seiei
Dojo)

June 28-30: Junior Olympics (Anaheim, CA)

July 6-7: USJF/JA Junior and Senior Nationals (Stanton Island, NY)

July 26-31: US Open Championships (Ft. Lauderdale, FL)

I am attaching the paperwork for the three upcoming clinics in
Seattle/Bellevue.

Finally, I am pleased to announce that all 40+ WSJI athlete scholarships
have been claimed. The first round of scholarships have been issued to
those who attended the Youth Nationals in Colorado Springs, and the next
round will be issued to the many Northwest athletes attending the upcoming
Senior Nationals and Junior Olympics. I am glad to see so many people
enthusiastic about traveling to national events, and I hope that these
scholarships can provide even a small measure of relief to offset the
substantial expenses accompanying this travel.
